It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Dr. Michael Lovell, the esteemed President of Marquette University and former Chancellor of UWM. Mike’s profound impact on both institutions and the broader Milwaukee community will forever be remembered and cherished.
Mike’s legacy is not only marked by his professional achievements but also by the personal connections he forged with those around him. His unwavering dedication to education, coupled with his selflessness and contagious enthusiasm, inspired all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Mike was a founding member of HERA, and his thoughtful and caring approach to helping students succeed and helping our region thrive are the embodiment of our organization’s mission. As members of the HERA Steering Committee, we have been fortunate to witness firsthand the transformative impact of Mike’s collaborative spirit and strategic vision. His commitment to fostering partnerships between our institutions has left an indelible mark on our collective efforts in education and the community.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Mike’s family, particularly his wife Amy, and the entire Marquette community during this difficult time. While we mourn the loss of a dear friend and leader, we take solace in knowing that Mike’s spirit of service and dedication will continue to guide us in our shared mission.
